Ty Gabriel

Owner / Director

I have always been passionate about STEM education. My mother, taught in a day care center (until my siblings and I were old enough to be home alone) and a teacher in a NYC public school. She always stressed the importance of gaining STEM proficiency to have the tools to satisfy our natural curiosity *and* to thrive professionally in the world. These lessons were not lost on me, which is why I found my way to Stemtree.

I attended NYU, and worked in IT before joining the military after the events of September 11, 2001. I obtained my MBA at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a MS in Biotechnology Entrepreneurship from Johns Hopkins University. Currently, in addition to Stemtree, I am the head of operations of a biotechnology start-up; we are developing a functional cure for Type 1 diabetes. I also do some consulting to help life sciences entrepreneurs with business formation / strategy and fundraising and help venture funds as well.

I am very happy to bring Stemtree services to the greater Miami community. Please reach out to me to see what Stemtree can offer your child -- to aide in their own journey of discovery and success.

Dhianne Fortunato

Operations

I have worked in consumer banking for the past 20 years. During this time, I had the opportunity to learn and develop skills in different roles such as bank teller, personal relationship Banker, and later, a Small Business Specialist. In my last banking role, I found great personal fulfillment in servicing small business owners and providing banking solutions to run day-to-day operations more efficiently. I am currently attending Miami-Dade College to enhance management operational skills.

I am delighted to be a part of the Stemtree Education Center in Coral Gables as the Operations Manager and I look forward to servicing the community.

My passion for STEM education is deeply rooted in my diverse background and experiences. From a young age, I was inspired by the transformative power of education and the importance of STEM proficiency in fostering curiosity and professional success. This inspiration led me to dedicate my career to teaching and research in STEM fields.

I completed my undergraduate studies in Computer Science, followed by a Master's degree in the same field. My academic journey culminated in a Ph.D. where I focused on integrating different learning strategies to adapt teaching methods for students, with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning and real-world application. During my Ph.D., I collaborated with distinguished researchers, resulting in several publications that contribute to the field of educational strategies in STEM.

I have had the privilege of teaching at Stemtree of Coral Gables, where I engaged with students of various age groups, facilitating hands-on learning experiences that foster deep understanding and enthusiasm for STEM fields. This experience has enriched my teaching philosophy, which centers on creating an inclusive and adaptive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds. I am dedicated to preparing the next generation of innovators and leaders by integrating practical experiences into my teaching. I believe in the power of education to transform lives and am committed to helping my students achieve their full potential.

I am a Biology student currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree. I recently completed my Associate’s degree at the Miami Dade Honors College program. My passion for STEM education stems from my previous experience in medical research laboratories and academic settings. I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact STEM education has on individuals of all ages, particularly children, fostering curiosity and critical thinking skills essential for their future success. Previously, I had the privilege of teaching various STEM after-school courses to 7th-grade students at West Miami Middle School. I have also worked with multiple organizations that aim towards the enrichment of children, such as the Coral Gables Woman’s Club.

I am excited to contribute to Stemtree’s mission of promoting STEM proficiency and enthusiasm within the Miami community, leveraging my background to nurture the next generation of scientists and innovators.

Born and raised in the sunny and lively city of Miami, Florida, my family says I am a vibrant soul with a zest for life. I hold a bachelor's degree in Biological Science from Florida International University (FIU) and I'm excitedly preparing to apply to dental school this summer. My passion for learning is boundless, and I thrive on discovering new things every day.

When I'm not studying, I loves to whip up delicious meals in the kitchen and lose myself in a good book. I also stay active with my favorite outdoor activities, including paddleboarding, skating, and running. Always on the go and always with a smile, I'm an adventurer at heart!
